St. Mary's and St. Monica's Schools were so privileged to have two Youths sponsored by the telus 2learn and Grassroots funding. They worked diligently to help both of our schools with our many technology initiatives.

At St. Monica School, Lindsay D'Agostini worked with the kindergarten and grade one students to help them create, develop, and produce their own movies. Scott assisted us with video editing and rendering the movies to a web compatible format.

What Our Teachers Had to Say:

About Lindsay:

"Lindsay was so committed to helping us out in every way we needed her. She helped me with the application and closing forms for our grassroots telecollaborative project on movie-making, as well as designing much of our movie making web site. What I appreciated the most was her sensitivity in scaffolding the children's ideas so that they could do the work independently. She challenged them, encouraged them, and captured their ideas. She facilitated through dialogue to make their ideas become reality. Within a very short period, she was able to take the children through the entire process of storyboarding, collecting props, creating backgrounds, filming, and then supporting them with the editing of their film, encoding, adding effects and then finally rendering the movies so they could be posted on the web. She was open to all suggestions, but was so responsible and independent that my role was minimized. Thanks, so much, Lindsay, for offering this enrichment experience for our little ones!"

"The students were always so excited to see Lindsay at the door. No matter what activity was happening in class, they never hesitated to miss it and go with her. They were able to get enrichment in an enjoyable manner."

"Lindsay was a very valuable addition to our school and she contributed a great deal to the learning of our students. She worked with small groups of children - brainstormed ideas, organized ideas - to create a personal story which was later acted out, videotaped and made into a short movie. Lindsay allowed the children to use their own ideas and she supported them to extend their ideas and provided them with the necessary materials to act out the story. She also spent a great deal of time working with the children on editing their work in order to create the video and create the website in which the story videos are displayed. The children were delighted to be able to extend and apply their learning to this project."

"When the Kindergarten children see Miss D., they immediately want to go and see if it's their turn to work with her. They look forward to their new learning under her leadership. Thanks, Lindsay!"

"Miss D. presents as a quiet committed hard-working young lady. She's efficient and good with the children. She appears to be enjoying her work with our students. They most certainly enjoy working with her."

"The students were very excited to work with Miss D'Agostini. It is always wonderful to integrate the curriculum with technology. We could not have done the movie making project without her expertise. It was a great extension, since we have worked with storyboards and the students were able to go to the next step. It would be wonderful to continue the project to include more people."

"The students were very excited to work on their storyboards with Lindsay. It was wonderful how she assisted us and our students in working with technology and curriculum integration. We could not have done this movie making project without her expertise. The integration to curriculum was inspiring, since the students were familiar with storyboards and writing stories. They enjoyed extending their storyboards into a movie. Lindsay enabled them to be creative and brought their stories alive."

"It was really special to have Lindsay working with the student in my class. He is highly motivated, and was thrilled to be presented with the exciting challenge of movie making. The other students in my class were eager to see Marc's work and his family is thrilled that they can access his masterpiece from home. Thanks for your dedication and hard work Lindsay!"

About Scott:

"Scott was such a quiet guy, that it was hard to see all of his skills at first glance. As I watched him work with students filming, editing, and adding effects for their movies, I saw his natural ability to lead and support the process of acquiring technology skills. Both Lindsay and I were unfamiliar with ULead Studio 7, and Scott taught us how to use it. Lindsay is proficient now and is also able to edit, add effects and render movies. He also taught her how to compress these movies to allow them to be posted on the web site. He has been open, and helpful in every way we could imagine. Thank you Scott, for being our life saver!"

"This has been a great experience for our students. They have learned a lot about technology."

"Scott worked one-on-one with children in order to act out, video tape and edit their personal story videos. Scott allowed the children to give input into the entire process. This project was a wonderful way to extend the students' classroom learning through technology."

"My observation is that Scott is an enthusiastic, hard-working young man. Fun to work with. Talented."

"The children loved working with Scott, too. He helped them fix their mistakes, put the video together. They could not have done this project without his expertise. They thought he was very nice, kind and helpful."

"The students were very excited to work with Scott. They were amazed with the technology that brought their stories and puppets alive. They enjoyed choosing their own background and putting the words to the story on the screen. They were mesmerized with the way the words could go in and out. It was a wonderful filming experience for the students involved. We couldn't have done this film making project without his expertise and knowledge. The students were enthralled with his technology skills."

"It was really special to have Scott working with the student in my class. He is highly motivated, and was thrilled to be presented with the exciting challenge of movie making. The other students in my class were eager to see Marc's work and his family is thrilled that they can access his masterpiece from home. Thanks for your dedication and hard work Scott!"

What Our Students Had to Say:

About Lindsay:

"The best part of the project was the filming of my story. I had to get my own idea. Since I had to make a storyboard in class before, when doing it with Miss D'Agostini, it was very easy to do and I knew what I was doing. It was fun making and gathering my own props. When I was making the movie, the mistakes had to stay. She was very nice. She didn't care what the movie was about."  Alex, Aspen & Kelly

"She helped me do filming. When I could not remember my lines, she helped me." Kelly

"She helped me with filming us. I like Miss D'Agostini." Aspen

"I liked my movie. I always wanted to do a car movie. I liked acting with the puppets. I really admired my movie that I did." Angus

"I liked my Lizzie Maguire movie. I liked acting with my puppets. I learned that if you make a movie, you have to pay attention. Making a movie was fun." Marisa

"I felt excited and I was very amazed that I was going to do a movie. She did the video taping for me. I learned how to make a very cool movie and I was just very amazed.  I learned that there could be a ton of different ways that you could do effects for the beginning, the end. You could also choose some pretty cool letters. I chose Fish Bones, because mine was about fish." Adam

"I liked how Scott and Miss D'Agostini helped my with my project. I liked my movie because I made all the puppets and it was based on Star Wars, one of my favorite topics, and because a lot of it was acted out. I learned that when you're just making a simple movie and you don't have special effects or anything high tech, you just have to make it simple." Liam

"It was fun creating and illustrating it. Illustrating was complicated and a little bit hard. It was lots and lots of fun. We got to make the beginning and the end of the movie." Will

"It was easy to do but the pictures were hard. It was fun because I got to be on a movie and learn about it. My mom helped me make the designs in the background."  Ysabelle
